About the Santa Barbara Mesa Neighborhood

The Mesa is small town goodwill within a city of natural beauty. My neighborhood is one of the few Santa Barbara neighborhoods that abuts California’s majestic coastline. The home to Santa Barbara City College, voted the number one city college in the nation, the Mesa houses a diverse community. From families, to young adults, to college students that are lucky to admire the outstanding natural beauty every day. Located on the Santa Barbara bluffs and extending from the ocean up to the top of Carrillo hill between Arroyo Burro Beach and the Santa Barbara Harbor. Four subdivisions that all boast their own unique qualities encompass the Mesa. Alta Mesa, West Mesa, East Mesa, and West Beach. As a result, the variety of homes available range from tract homes built in the 1950’s, to condos, to luxury homes, as well as new custom homes dotting the neighborhoods. Most noteworthy the views range from ocean views sitting oceanfront on top of the bluffs in West Mesa, East Mesa, and West Beach, to expansive city and mountain views perched on Alta Mesa. Views can be abundant no matter what subdivision you are located in.

Mesa Neighborhood Expert

I take pride on being a local expert on the Santa Barbara Mesa.

Mesa Housing Market

The Mesa neighborhood is one of the hottest housing markets. Santa Barbara Mesa homes for sale priced correctly sell quickly and typically have multiple offers. This is for good reason, not only does the Mesa have great elementary schools in Washington, Monroe and McKinley, it boasts everything a person could want in a coastal community.  From easy access to dining and shopping to having some of the best beaches and parks within walking distance. Not only that, city weather records show that the Mesa’s winter temperatures are 10 to 12 degrees warmer than downtown, and 10 to 12 degrees cooler in the summer. A true breath of fresh air. Consequently, the best kept secret of Santa Barbara is no longer.

Organic Mesa Lifestyle

Mesa lifestyle is truly organic and it shows with Lazy Acres being the staple grocery store. The beaches and parks are abundant. Shoreline Park is located oceanfront directly across the street from East Mesa boasting almost 15 acres of walking paths, children playgrounds, and greenery. Elings Park is situated on the top of the hill next to Alta Mesa and is home to various activities; including public tennis courts, mountain biking trails, and much much more. La Mesa Park is another hidden gem that is situated on the east side of West Mesa. The holy grail of West Mesa residents has to be the Douglas Family Preserve, formally known as the Wilcox Property. Seventy acres of undeveloped land situated atop the bluffs where residents from across Santa Barbara come to enjoy the view and walk their dogs. Arroyo Burro Beach Park situated at the west end of West Mesa, or more commonly referred to by surfers as “The Pit”, happens to be one of the most popular beaches during summer months. The Boathouse is situated right above the sand at Arroyo Burro Beach Park, offering exquisite views and fine dining for a rememberable date night. Directly across the street from Santa Barbara City College is Leadbetter beach, which is a frequent destination for college surfers. Leadbetter Beach offers its own dining experience, as customers at Shoreline Cafe have the choice of dining with their feet in the sand.

The Mesa Paper

Even more, our Mesa Paper is a dedicated neighborhood paper run by  Alice who hand delivers each copy. Alice is a benchmark to the community rallying together local businesses and fellow neighbors to host community events throughout the year.  She is truly a sweet, hard working individual to the people that know her, to my former neighbor – thank you Alice.
